Pastor-in-Chief

Becky Garrison emailed us a link to this video a few days ago. It illustrates well how far America is from reaching its goals of separation of church and state. Also though, it really makes me wonder what exactly the up coming election is about. Are we trying to elect a spiritual leader or a commander and chief? Or perhaps faith and politics are too intertwined to differentiate between the two.

I am reading Jesus for President. In the second section, it notes that Jesus would make a terrible president as it is much like Rome in its grasp for power and influence. That said, why would we elect a president based on that? Something to ponder anyway, since I am still reading. LOL

It is an interesting video… obviously slanted towards this idea that having Christians in leadership is a bad thing. I noticed that some of the interviews and comments were made at private/Christian events (like one of Barack Obama at church). Seems to me that people would be entitled to their own beliefs in those places. The other thing that gets me is the distrust of anything religious in politics. Without the guidance of religious principles, where would we end up? What would be the bottom line for humanists? Can God’s purposes not be worked out with these people in leadership?

    Cheers!

Actually the organization is dedicated to the separation of Church and State – how can the church be a prophetic voice without becoming a political pawn? A good book to read that provides a much needed historical perspective is “God in the White House” by Randall Balmer.
