Hi all! Thanks for reading these updates as we move along the production journey of The Ordinary Radicals. I wanted to leave a little note here about how we’re funding the movie.
When my close friend and community partner Shane Claiborne told me there was a book tour planned for Jesus For President this summer, I quickly saw a great opportunity to meet up with thousands of people living in the United States who use faith as their fuel to propel them to live extraordinary lives.
This movie isn’t funded by any big organization & I’m not an independently wealthy person (I helped found The Simple Way for goodness sake!). The DVD’s & merchandise we’re offering literally pays for the gas, tolls & food to make this movie a reality. The new-tech term is called “Crowdsourcing” –having a lot of people help to make something happen.
The total budget of the movie is far from free (it’s screening in movie theaters, so it kinda has to be). We need to raise about $60,00.00 in order to be able to complete the movie (I’m not taking a salary and none of the equipment rented will even get paid for until mid next year!). The rest of the cost of the movie will trickle in over time. It’s not ideal, but I wanted to make sure that no single person or company other than myself had any more than a 12% stake in the project. The reasoning for this is so anyone opposed to the movie (and trust me there are! Crazy huh?) can’t say that this is a singularly funded propaganda piece.
I truly want to make a movie that from my non-Christian perspective shares the wonderful stories, sacrifices and traditions of this peculiar people of faith. By raising funds communally, I hope we all will have a movie to be proud of. If you can help support, great. If not, no worries–just know we’re doing this humbly and with nothing but the best of intentions.
Warmly,
